  • Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company (KEGOC) was established.

1998

  • CIS Electricity Systems Parallel Operation Treaty was signed.

  • Loan agreements were signed with the IBRD and EBRD to finance the Kazakhstan Electricity Transmission Rehabilitation Project, Phase I.

  • For the first time, a Russia-Kazakhstan-Central Asia electrical parallel operation scheme was established.

  • 500 kV L-1103 Kostanayskaya - Chelyabinskaya overhead line was put into operation.

  • 1150 kV L-1104 Ekibastuzskaya - Altai overhead line was put into operation.

  • Electric Power Industry Law was adopted, which defined the status, rights and obligations of KEGOC.
  • Loan agreements have been signed with the EBRD and DBK for North-South 500 kV Electricity Transmission Project.
  • The head office has been relocated to Astana, the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
  • The Company is the System Operator of the unified power system of Kazakhstan.

2005

  • Loan agreements was signed with IBRD, EBRD, DBK for North-South 500 kV Electricity Transmission Project.

2006

  • Start of construction of interregional 500 kV North Kazakhstan - Aktobe region overhead transmission line. The project was implemented on the principles of public-private partnership by Batys Transit JSC, with a 20% stake in the concessionaire owned by KEGOC.
  • NDC was relocated to Astana. The new dispatch control premises were presented to foreign guests, participants of the CIS Electric Power Council meeting.
  • SCADA/EMS system was commissioned in line with the implementation of Kazakhstan Electricity Transmission Rehabilitation Project, Phase I.
  • The analogue communication systems were upgraded to digital ones as a part of the project Kazakhstan Electricity Transmission Rehabilitation Project, Phase I (PBX, RRL, HF communication).

2007

  • The main components of Kazakhstan Electricity Transmission Rehabilitation Project, Phase I were completed.

2008

  • The balancing electricity market was launched in simulation mode.
  • Loan agreement signed with EBRD to finance Kazakhstan Electricity Transmission Rehabilitation Project, Phase II.
  • 500 kV YuKGRES - Shu overhead line was put into operation.
  • Phase 1 of North-South 500 kV Electricity Transmission Project was successfully completed.
  • 500 kV North Kazakhstan - Aktobe Oblast overhead transmission line was commissioned at Ulke substation.

2009

  • North-South 500 kV Electricity Transmission Project was the first project to use FOCL (OPGW).
  • Phase 3 of North-South 500 kV Electricity Transmission Project: 500 kV Agadyr-YuKGRES overhead transmission line was successfully commissioned.
  • A loan agreement was signed with the IBRD to implement Moinak Electricity Transmission Project.
  • The last component of the Modernisation of Substation Relay Protection and Automation under the Kazakhstan Electricity Transmission Rehabilitation Project was completed.

2010

  • To implement Alma Electricity Transmission Project, a loan agreement was signed with the IBRD.
  • Commissioning of new microprocessor-based RPA (Relay Protection and Automation) and MCS (Monitoring and Control System) equipment supplied under phase 1 of Kazakhstan Electricity Transmission Rehabilitation Project was completed. Modernisation of RPA and MCS equipment was carried out at 67 substations of KEGOC.

2011

  • A loan agreement was signed with the EBRD for Ossakarovka Electricity Transmission Project.
  • A new autotransformer was installed at 500 kV TsGPP substation: Astana’s capacity reserve increased by 25% to 500 MVA.

2012

  • The Head of State signed a law of the Republic of Kazakhstan to establish a capacity market initiated by KEGOC.
  • L-2383 MHPP-Robot overhead line was put into operation.
  • 500 kV Alma substation was put into operation.
  • 500 kV L-5353 Almaty – Alma overhead line was put into operation.

2013

  • Construction of 500 kV YuKGRES - Alma overhead line was completed ahead of schedule.

2014

  • Alma Electricity Transmission Project was completed.
  • The large-scale 500 kV North-East-South Electricity Transmission Project was launched.
  • As part of People’s IPO programme an initial public offering of KEGOC ordinary shares on KASE was conducted. The number of placed common shares of KEGOC was 25,999,999.

2016

  • 500 kV Semey substation was put into operation.
  • 500 kV L-5384 Ust-Kamenogorskaya - Semey overhead line was put into operation.
  • 500 kV L-5370 Ekibastuzskaya - Semey overhead line was put into operation.
  • 500 kV overhead line Ekibastuz - Shulbinskaya HPP (Semey) - Ust-Kamenogorsk overhead line was put into operation.

2017

  • USD 151.9 million EBRD loan for Ossakarovka Electricity Transmission Project was repaid ahead of schedule.
  • Two semi-annual repayments for 2018 of EUR 23.8 million, on the EBRD loan raised in 2008 for the Kazakhstan Electricity Transmission Rehabilitation Project, Phase II were repaid ahead of schedule.

2018

  • 500 kV Shulbinskaya HPP (Semey) - Aktogay - Taldykorgan - Alma overhead line was put into operation at a nationwide teleconference with the Head of State.

2019

  • Implementation Pavlodar Electricity Transmission Reinforcement Project was completed.
  • Construction of the 220 kV Tulkubas-Tyaga and Burnoye-Tyaga overhead lines was completed as part of Kazakhstan Electricity Transmission Rehabilitation Project, Phase II.

2021

  • Financial Settlement Centre for Renewable Energy Support LLP, a subsidiary of the Company, was alienated by transferring 100% of the shares owned by KEGOC to state ownership free of charge.

2022

  • 220 kV Ortalyk substation near Turkestan was constructed and commissioned.
  • The first green bonds were issued and placed on KASE.
